Jon Maier
Chief ETF Strategist
Jon Maier, with nearly 30 years of experience in research-oriented roles, currently serves as the Chief ETF Strategist at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. His career on Wall Street includes significant roles such as the Chief Investment Officer of ETFs for Global X and Managing Director, ETF Strategist, at Merrill Lynch, where he managed portfolios worth in excess of $50 billion.
In 2017, Jon held the position of Chief Investment Officer at Global X ETFs. Alongside his team, he shaped the firm’s market outlook, led the construction of model portfolios, crafted the firm’s investment strategy, and contributed to the development of ETF products. As portfolio managers, Jon and his team employed a top-down approach to investing, focusing on macro-level trends and implementing their investment strategy through the use of both broad-based and more narrowly focused ETFs.
Before his tenure at Global X ETFs, Jon was the lead Model Portfolio Strategist at Merrill Lynch, where he managed their ETF model portfolio business within its CIO Office. Prior to this, he served as the Senior Closed-end Fund Research analyst within Bank of America-Merrill Lynch Global Research.
Before joining Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, Jon was the lead Research Analyst covering Closed-end Funds and BDCs at UBS and its predecessor firm, PaineWebber. During his time at PaineWebber/UBS, Jon was involved in structuring closed-end fund IPOs and subsequently covering new funds.
Jon has authored numerous papers on Closed-end funds and ETFs and has made appearances on Reuters, Bloomberg, CNBC, Cheddar TV, and Yahoo TV and many more. He is often quoted in leading financial publications including The Wall Street Journal and Barron's.
Jon has helped build and fund schools in Malawi and Nepal through BuildOn. Prior to his career in finance, Jon served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Kiev, Ukraine, focusing on privatization projects. He received his BBA from Emory University.
