Our diverse talent and training programs
Lauren Tyler, Global Head of Human Resources, provides our strong commitment to talent development, retention and diversity and inclusion programs.
[MUSIC PLAYING] My name is Lauren Tyler. And I'm the Global Head of Human Resources for the Asset & Wealth Management business. Today, I'm going to highlight a few things that I am most proud of in relation to JP Morgan's diversity and inclusion efforts and our talent and training programs.
To start, diversity inclusion is a core part of the culture and principles at JPMorgan and it's how we do business. For example, we have recently committed $30 billion to advancing racial equity, which includes expanding and promoting affordable housing and homeownership for underserved communities, growing Black and Latinx-owned businesses, and building a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
Another initiative I am proud of is Advancing Black Pathways, which focuses on accelerating the economic empowerment and opportunity for the Black community in areas of wealth, education, and careers. And lastly, we have established a six-week fellowship program for college sophomores that allows them to explore careers in the financial services.
Internally, as a part of ABP, we have focused on hiring, training, retaining, and promoting Black talent at JPMC. Our Black intern representation is up 35% following the launch of ABP. We have also focused on our Black managing director representation, which has increased 63%, while our Black executive directors have increased 51% since 2015.
For our employees, JPMorgan has a number of business resource groups and affinity networks that foster leadership and networking opportunities and advance the firm's commitment to diversity. In fact, membership in our AWM affinity networks has grown tremendously over the last year, in some cases increasing over 200%. Finally, asset and wealth management executive forums are dedicated to Black, Hispanic, Asian, and LGBTQ+ leaders who act as ambassadors and thought leaders for firm-wide initiatives and promotes the importance of representation and authentic leadership.
I also want to touch on the phenomenal talent we have at JPMorgan Chase. Our goal is also to attract and train and develop the best people for today and the future. We retain 95% of our top talent every year and invest in our people across all levels through recognition and training programs.
A few of the programs to note are the associate training program, a top talent program targeting high-performing associates who have the responsibility for the design, development, and distribution of our investment products. Roughly 70% of our program participants work within the asset management business. We also have the Ascend program, which is a 12-month development program that is designed to enhance the career progression and retention of high-performing, diverse vice presidents through sponsorship assignments, networking opportunities, and manager engagement.
Additionally, we have the Emerging Leaders Program, which is targeted for high-potential executive directors to enhance their leadership skills in preparation for increased scope and responsibilities. 50% of our participants in the most recent program were leaders in asset management.
In regards to junior talent, we recruit the best and the brightest directly into our asset management analysts program, a three-year development program that includes 150 analysts across 10 countries. We also offer programs such as Launching Leaders, Winning Women, and Proud to Be, which are explicitly focused on recruiting diverse talent into asset management.
For our managers, we offer Leadership Edge, which is a suite of programs and resources focused on deepening the firm's leadership culture and developing strong managers. 61% of AWM managers have attended Leadership Edge programs since its launch in 2015.
A final example of JPMorgan's investment in our people and our communities is Service Corps program. The program recruits teams of employees from around the world to apply their skills and work on projects directly with the nonprofit community. This experience is geared toward top-performing employees who are vetted through competitive nomination and interview and selection process. We deploy teams across the world, including Detroit, Chicago, Frankfurt, Mumbai, Paris, Washington, DC, just to name a few.
As our CEO Jamie Dimon has said, "People are our most important asset. The long-term growth and success of JPMorgan Chase depends on our ability to attract and retain our employees. Maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive is not only a smart thing to do. It's the right thing to do."
