This page looks at the Chinese economy. Growth has been slowing over the past few years, as the government works to shift the composition of growth away from investment spending and toward domestic consumption (left graph). The top right-hand chart looks at Chinese monetary policy and shows the reserve requirement ratio (RRR) over time. The recent cuts in the RRR show that China has been trying to stimulate its economy through monetary policy. Additionally, the chart on the bottom right shows that the Chinese government has also been using fiscal stimulus to grow the economy, as their fiscal deficit has grown.
