This page zooms in on the US consumer. The left-hand chart looks at consumer confidence based on two different measures. Currently the Conference Board measure is painting a much brighter picture than the University of Michigan's equivalent, given the greater weight given to the labour market in the Conference Board's survey. The right-hand chart looks at the level of cash balances in US consumer bank accounts by income bracket. It's notable that consumer balances across each of the different income groups shown still sit well above pre-pandemic levels.
