On the left, the lines show the export year-over-year growth of the six ASEAN economies. Exports are an important economic driver for the region. It is an important source of employment and a broad range of economic activities, such as business investment which depends on exports. The chart on the right shows the % of tourist arrivals to each of the ASEAN economies relative to its respective month in 2019. This is to show how since the re-opening in early 2022, tourist arrivals have recovered to reach more than 50% of 2019 levels. Tourism can have positive spill-over effects onto other sectors such as retail sales, transportation etc., and serve as an important driver for economic growth in Asia.
