Client Experience

Waiting for an IPO

A client with whom we had a longstanding relationship approached us with a short-term challenge: a long-anticipated liquidity event—an IPO or strategic sale of his former firm—was still at least six months away and he had short-term cash needs to sustain his lifestyle.

Using his private shares as loan collateral was complicated. Moreover, “without a steady income, he was unlikely to qualify for a traditional cash-out mortgage on his current home,” notes his Capital Advisor. “So together with his team, we rolled up our sleeves to see what additional options we could offer.”

Cash flow analysis reveals solution

A cash flow analysis revealed two areas where the client’s expenses could potentially be curtailed. “We suggested he do without staff for a while and postpone the charitable gift until his liquidity improved.”

“So together with his team, we rolled up our sleeves to see what additional options we could offer.”

The client accepted both recommendations—and a third that he take out a home equity line of credit: “He trusted us and allowed us to help him get to a solution that gave him the flexibility he needed.”
