Natural capital refers to the assets in nature, including soil, air, water and living things. Nature provides resources critical to the products and services for many businesses and contributes meaningfully to over half of world GDP1. The production and the consumption of products and services not only consumes natural capital but also generates waste.
We seek to understand the risks and opportunities associated with natural capital and ecosystems on the business activities of our investee companies’, including the impact generated throughout the life cycles of their products and services.
Governments have recently taken an active role in preserving natural capital and reversing nature loss. New legislation and initiatives with the aim of preserving and restoring nature will clearly have business and financial implications for companies and investors. We engage with companies to explore how they can manage their nature risks.
We also engage with companies to understand how they are unlocking new business opportunities associated with the transition to less resource-intensive businesses.
