On the left chart, we illustrate how corporate M&A tends to make up a majority acquisition activity; however, sponsor-backed M&A has increased in recent times given the amount of fundraising and dry powder sponsors currently have their disposal. This is further illustrated by the chart on the right, which shows an increasing amount of institutional M&A loan volume is sponsored.
