What very few people talk about is the environmental impact of mining crypto, but as we show in this chart, mining Bitcoin consumed more electricity than the entire country of the Netherlands in 2019. But it does not seem like Bitcoin is going away, so we should probably think about better ways of generating electricity? According to the University of Cambridge, global hydro, biofuels & waste, and solar/wind/other generates 47x the electricity that bitcoin consumes; these assets generate income, Bitcoin does not.
