This page aims to address the income inequality issue in the U.S. On the bottom left hand side, we show that the percentage of overall income received by the top 10% of Americans has been rising and has recently eclipsed 50%. The chart on the bottom left compares spending as a share of income for the top 10% and bottom 90% of Americans. While the top 10% has been receiving more income as a share of overall income, they tend to spend less than the bottom 90%. While this puts downward pressure on traditional inflation and economic growth, it instead fuels financial asset appreciation, which we show on the right.
