Australia has a heavy reliance on trade, particularly in bulk commodities such as iron ore and coal. Exports have come into focus as the political relationship with China has changed. China is not the only market that Australia sells to but is a key one for certain bulk commodity exports. The chart on left shows the largest of Australia's exports by type. The right hand chart shows how the country's current account position has swung from a deficit to a surplus thanks to rising iron ore prices.
